Stay away from the tree and anything it has landed on. A fallen tree can shift as it settles, and a cracked trunk or a hanging branch can drop without warning. If a power line is down or tangled in the branches, treat it as live. Keep everyone at least a few car lengths away from it and from anything it touches, including fences, gutters, puddles and the tree itself, and call 911 and Xcel Energy. Do not try to cut a tree that is touching a power line. That work is only for qualified line clearance crews. If a tree has come through the roof, leave the rooms below it and switch off the power to that part of the house only if you can reach the panel safely on a dry floor.
What counts as an emergency
Call right away, at any hour, when a tree or a large branch has landed on the house, a garage or a car, when it blocks the driveway or the street, or when a cracked tree or a hanging limb could fall on a house or a walkway. Wet spring and fall snows in Denver Metro break branches on trees still in leaf, and summer windstorms take down weak trees, so calls come in waves after storms. A branch down in the middle of the lawn can usually wait for a regular appointment, and we will tell you if that is the case.
How we remove a tree from a house
A tree resting on a roof is under tension, and cutting it wrong can make the damage worse. Our crew works out how the weight sits, then removes it in sections from the top down, lowering each piece with ropes or lifting it with a crane where the tree is too heavy or the house too fragile. Once the weight is off, we can put a tarp over the hole or work alongside your roofer. We take photos before and during the removal, which help if you file an insurance claim.
Power lines and the utility
When branches are on the main lines, Xcel Energy clears them from the lines after a storm, and the cleanup of the wood afterward is the tree owner's responsibility. When a tree is on the line to your house, the line needs to be disconnected before anyone works near it. We call the utility and work in the order it allows, which sometimes means waiting for its crew to arrive.
What happens when you call
A person answers, asks what happened and tells you what to do while you wait. We send the nearest available crew and give you an arrival time on the phone. In lightning or high wind, it may not be safe to climb until the weather passes, and we will say so rather than put a climber at risk. After-hours rates are higher, and we tell you the rate on the phone before anyone drives out. You file any insurance claim with your insurer, and your policy decides what is covered. We give you a written price for the removal and the photos you need.

A spring snow dropped a huge limb onto our garage roof late at night. They came out once the snow eased in the morning and lifted it off in sections. Took longer than I hoped, but they told us why.

They helped us pick a tree that will not grow into the power line, planted it at the right depth and left a watering schedule on the fridge. It leafed out well this spring.

The arborist checked our two ash trees and was honest that the small one was not worth treating. We injected the big one and replaced the small one with a different species. Clear prices for both.

Will my insurance pay for storm tree removal?
That depends on your policy and on what the tree hit. You file the claim, and the insurer decides what is covered. We can photograph the damage before and during the removal and give you an itemized invoice for your claim.
